The Global BDMC Lead  - IMT Industry Group will lead the business development, client development and marketing efforts for the Industrials, Manufacturing and Transportation ( IMT) Industry Group, working closely with the Global Industry Group (GIG) Chair, the Steering Committee, the IKC Lead and the Lead Knowledge Lawyer to develop and execute the IMT GIG's strategy. It is a strategic role, requiring gravitas and the ability to interact, coach and manage partners; to develop and promote client and market-facing IMT initiatives and operations in a consistent manner across the Firm; to raise profile for the IMT practitioners globally; and to contribute to position the Firm as an industry leader in IMT.
To deeply understand the trends and opportunities across the IMT sector, and serve as an expert resource for partners, colleagues and specialist functions.


 
Responsibilities:
 
Strategy, Business Planning and Budgeting
  • Develop and deliver a compelling BDMC strategy and plan across the GIG, understanding market needs and dynamics. This role is focused on setting the strategic market-focused direction for the IMT GIG with the Chair and Global Steering Committee
  • Develop and manage budget proactively to ensure effective implementation of strategy and deliver expected ROI
  • In line with the Firm’s Client Value Model, define, develop and deliver value propositions, products and services that highlight our commercial capabilities and drive client growth across sector, working with Knowledge Management and Global Practice Groups (GPGs)
  • Help monitor revenue and KPIs
Management of the Group’s Steering Committee
  • Act as a strategic advisor to the IMT Chair and Steering Committee (SC) members
  • Work with the Chair to create an engaged and enthusiastic SC, with SC members responsible and accountable for executing the business plan
  • Organize and facilitate SC meetings and IMT GIG meetings to engage with lawyers and PBS teams
Client Development
  • Work and coordinate with the IKC Lead to identify and action opportunities across the IMT IKC portfolio
  • Engage with IKC teams and client managers to solicit and share market and client intelligence, and promote the IMT GIG client offerings
  • Develop value propositions in collaboration with PGs to respond to key trends and developments to aid client outreach by IKCs and regional client teams
IMT BD, client and marketing support network
  • Lead and guide the IMTs GIG's BDMC network, including the Regional BD Leads. Host regular calls with colleagues who support the industry to share industry trends, BD opportunities, thought leadership and service offerings, ensuring that all regional IMT efforts are aligned to the global strategy
  • Leverage feedback from IKC Lead and portfolio clients on offerings and amend strategy / value proposition accordingly
  • Set high standards and values, and embed shared values of collaboration, market-leading intelligence and client service across the team building close working in close collaboration with colleagues supporting industries and practices
Profile Raising & Communications
  • Team with fee earners and BDMC colleagues around the world – including PGs and other IGs - to develop and market the GIG’s value proposition and expertise through the development of thought leadership content and other profile-raising activities, tracking ROI on all efforts in order to adjust investment strategy as needed
  • Events, conferences and sponsorships: identify and manage, in particular, the GIG's flagship events, major industry conference sponsorships, and key partnerships
  • Work with the Global Marketing & Communications team to develop and execute a communications media plan, and ensure that the IMT GIG has a compelling website and digital media presence
  • Lead internal communications strategy, equip fee earners so that they can understand the business realities our clients face and proactively support the IMT GIG’s efforts, irrespective of their Practice Group
  • Bid Support & Marketing materials
  • Partner with and provide guidance to the Global Client Pursuits team to prepare industry group-specific bids and proposals and contribute to multi-group bids and proposals 
  • Identify, develop and maintain suite marketing materials, including for each of the GIG’s sub-sectors

 

 
Skills and Experience:
  • Significant professional services or marketing experience is vital, with the ability to interact with partners, managing and coaching them in relation to strategic aspects of the sector and their role
  • Understanding of how clients select lawyers, as well as the client development process within professional services firms
  • Knowledge of the IMT sector is preferred, as is experience in an industry-focused role
  • Excellent English language skills (verbal and written), with the ability to interact and influence across borders at senior levels of the Firm on strategy and execution and with external clients and/or leading organizations
  • Significant and demonstrable experience collaborating across multiple offices or on a regional or global basis
  • Excellent time management and organizing skills; ability to prioritise and manage time to meet deadlines
  • Collaborative and inclusive team player, with a positive "can-do" approach and respecting the diversity of cultural, social and academic backgrounds across the Firm
