Description
The Director, North America Inclusion, Diversity and Equity will work closely with the NA ID&E team and the Global ID&E team in the implementation of the Firm's inclusion, diversity, and equity strategic planning and goals. The role holder will provide leadership and management support and be responsible for planning, managing, developing, and implementing inclusion, diversity, and equity programs, specifically related to client-facing programming, initiatives, and metrics; and advancing the Firm's diversity and inclusion mission and goals.
Additionally, the role holder will collaborate with colleagues across the Firm's network on global programs such as BakerWellbeing, bConnected, Global Aspirational Targets (GATs), gender and LGBTQ+ discussions, and strategic regional and global projects as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute thought leadership to the development and implementation of innovative methods and ideas to advance and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the Firm's North America region and across other regions as requested, with a particular focus on client-facing ID&E programs, to include collaboration with the Firm's North America Diversity and Inclusion Committee
- Work in partnership with the CIDEO and ID&E teams to design and implement internal ID&E organizational structures (to include metrics, toolkits, templates, databases, technology solutions, etc.) to integrate ID&E into the firm's North America Office matrix
- Manage and implement diversity awareness education programming, workshops, seminars, and retreats, including those aimed at our clients
- Lead large and small-scale ID&E events, specifically those that are client-facing
- Manage and respond to diversity surveys and client requests, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of information; design and develop business reports
- Work with clients to implement diversity-related programs and partnerships
- Compile, analyze and maintain internal and external ID&E related data and metrics; own and maintain ID&E dashboards to assess efficiency and effectiveness of ID&E initiatives and strategies
- Conduct internal and external research, including research related to racial/cultural, gender, and LGBTQ+ issues
- Build relationships and collaborate with the firm's lawyers, and business service departments, including communications/marketing, talent management, leadership and learning, finance, and business development teams as it relates to ID&E efforts
- Build relationships with diversity professionals at peer firms, leaders of diversity organizations and bar associations, and diversity professionals at clients
- Monitor external diversity best practices, attend and speak at diversity conferences and on diversity panels as requested, and facilitate relationships between individuals at the firm and leading diversity organizations
- Manage regional budget
- Perform such other duties as assigned or requested
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Strong experience in diversity and inclusion, preferably in a large law firm.
- Self-motivated and the ability to work independently
- Demonstrated expertise in project management and strategic planning
- Strong organization skills, including setting priorities, structuring project deliverables
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, excellent presentation skills
- Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform data analysis
- Experience in marketing and event planning a plus
- High level of discretion, diplomacy, and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
- Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
