The Director of Knowledge, North America will ensure effective co-ordination and alignment of Knowledge efforts in the region, in line with the Firm’s global Knowledge strategy;  leverage technology and systems to improve the collection and retrieval of Knowledge content across the region, practice and industry groups; and drive the implementation of standard Knowledge services across the region, leverage global expertise and optimize processing with automation.


  • Support the Chief Knowledge Officer in the development of a global Knowledge strategy and take responsibility for its implementation in the NA region
  • Work with Knowledge Partners and other Knowledge professionals to  create awareness of and implement the global Knowledge strategy in the region
  • Assess the level of Knowledge development in the region and explore areas for improvement, ensuring that each country drafts, regularly reviews and delivers a Knowledge Plan
  • Support the Lead Knowledge Lawyers, the Director of Information & Research and other key members of the Knowledge Leadership Team in the implementation of their strategic priorities within the region
  • Implement the global Core Precedent Roadmap across the region by supporting the development of a more complete and consistent library of standard form precedents
  • Constantly work towards improving the customer experience and making sure that user feedback is incorporated through the right systems and processes
  • Ensure that all Knowledge team members in the region use global Knowledge systems, tools and processes, and that they adhere to and share best practices
  • Raise awareness of automation technology and identify opportunities to automate precedents where applicable to improve efficiency in the region
  • Constantly work towards improving the use of information resources within the region and alignment with library, information and research policies 
  • Create and manage a strong regional Knowledge community and encourage local and regional Knowledge leads to build Knowledge communities within their offices 
  • Work with regional members of the Innovation Committee and others to promote innovation in the region and encourage all Knowledge team members to help further the innovation agenda
  • Take responsibility for manpower performance and planning for the team across the region; identify resourcing gaps and help to find resources to fill them – either by tapping into global resource pools, finding local resources (e.g. associates) to help, or building a business case for additional hires
  • Mentor and coach high potential Knowledge resources in the region and look for opportunities to find broader roles for them

Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant undergraduate degree, preferably in law
  • Significant experience with extensive knowledge of Knowledge Management in a law firm environment
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders, build strong relationship virtually, communicate effectively, comfortable working in large, complex environment, highly credible and persuasive
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results and sense of urgency in setting strategies and executing against the objectives
  • Proven ability to influence, interact and consult with senior leaders, strong collaboration skills and effective stakeholder management
  • Strong coaching, counselling, business acumen, and overall communication skills, and highly credible presentation skills
