The In-Market Business Partner IBC/ R2R/ P2P will serve as the primary point of contact for the end-to-end Quote to Cash (IBC) process from new client/matter intake to collections, with a sharp focus on reducing lock-up and improving cash flow and realization. The IMBP role is heavily focused on coordinating the intake, billing, and collection efforts of the shared service centers and serves as the single point of contact between Billing Partners and client legal operations teams, and the finance technical support teams, strategic pricing, and other stakeholders such as practice group business managers.

To maintain the financial integrity and general ledger and balance sheet accuracy for the Canada market, and to execute all agreed in-market financial accounting activities and analysis. This includes monitoring the execution of standardised and streamlined Record-to-Report (R2R) and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes for the market by the Service Centers, including recording of accounting transactions, trust accounting, cost and fee allocations, accounts payable, vendor management, reconciliations, reporting, and execution of the month-end closing process.


  • Act as the finance business partner to advise Partners on areas of inventory management and make recommendations to improve financial performance and client service with respect to the billing and collections processes
  • As the In-Market steward of the end-to-end Q2C process, understand all aspects of the relevant procedures, policies and tools and use this expertise to provide guidance to lawyers and other In-Market personnel to address process issues as they arise, coordinating with other finance functions to resolve process or capacity issues as required
  • Take ownership of implementing client Outside Counsel Billing Guidelines to ensure compliance, coordinating with finance technical support teams and others to ensure our invoices are delivered in line with client requirements and that invoices are paid in line with agreed payment terms
  • Support Firm and Finance team leadership on agreed initiatives and special projects

  • Oversee office accounting activities such as vendor payments, expense reimbursements, Principal payments and payroll processing; journal entries, account reconciliations and adjustments
  • Ensure compliance with Global credit card program is upheld with extremely high levels of compliance, including processes related to expense reimbursements through Firm systems and within the agreed SLAs
  • Ensure day-to-day accounting activities (fees, expenses, Partner disbursements, monthly close of local ledger and balance sheet, etc.) are managed as per agreed SLAs and within timelines
  • Review and final validation of all requests processed for ACH, Check and wire transfer payments
  • Responsible for income tax, VAT/GST/IVA filings and statutory compliance of the entity(ies) in line with local jurisdictional requirements (where applicable)
  • Monitor financial close and assist with closing activities as necessary
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining Local per Capita allocation basis
  • Coordinate and oversee interfirm billing and settlement between the local office(s), BV, and/or Member Firms
  • Coordinate year-end financial close activities and provide support for internal/external audits as necessary
  • Provide onsite support for attorneys with regard to financial data inquiries
  • Support the leadership on firm wide initiatives including annual and ad-hoc projects

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or relevant experience focusing on financial management, accounting or other related areas, together with strong project management skills
  • Experience in Finance Operations and/ or Finance Shared Services
  • Working proficiency in using MS Office and other productivity tools
  • Experience working in a Professional Services organization is a plus
