Role Purpose

This position will work as part of Global Communications team and will be responsible for developing internal and external communications strategies and implementing related activities for our management and offices in Latin America. As part of the regional business support team, this position will drive diverse projects and initiatives to strengthen the brand of the Firm within the region, to improve the profile of the region with the rest of the Firm and to improve engagement across practices and offices.

As a member of the Firm’s Global Communications team, the person will work directly with senior Latin American management, including the Regional Chair, the Regional Operating Officer, Practice/Industry Group leaders and leaders of various functions (Business Development and Talent/HR, in particular) in the region.

Main responsibilities

  • Be an active participant in regional meetings, forums, Practice and Industry groups meetings and events.  Be "in the know" about major activities within the strategic regional plan, client program, pro-bono, diversity and other key activities,

  • Stay up to date about trends and activities within the legal landscape in the region, for both clients and competitors; understand the industry landscape, political and economic environment so as to be an effective advisor to the region's leadership.

  • Develop a comprehensive, multi-year plan for internal and external communications to help build and protect the Firm’s brand reputation in Latin America and effectively communicate the Firm's strategy in the region.

  • Prepare and distribute internal communications materials

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive plan to monitor and manage media relations with the regional and international business/financial and legal, press in Latin America. Develop key messages and assist in training designated Latin American leadership spokespersons in delivering these messages.

  • Handle media inquiries relating to Latin America and, when appropriate, serve as a regional spokesperson for the Firm.

  • Write speeches/talking points and develop presentation materials for key members of the Latin America management team as they communicate internally and externally via Town Halls and other meetings.

  • Work with communications services teams based in the four centers including Buenos Aires to reinforce existing collateral and capabilities.

  • Working with the central Marketing team to reinforce the strategic direction of our regional social media activity and other marketing initiatives.

  • Act as consultant in providing communications guidance to all offices in Latin America.

  • Assist in developing internal and external communications for major meetings and events in Latin America, including the annual Americas meeting.

  • Provide advice and support in preparing for and managing communications.

  • Provide other communications support to, and work directly with, the Latin America Chair and the Regional Operating Officer.

Experience Required

  • Strong experience in media or communications experience in large and dynamic organizations, preferably in a financial services or professional services environment and with partners/senior executives.

  • Strong contacts with media, especially at top-tier business publications. High level of experience working with business reporters in a sustained, positive and proactive manner. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Internal and External Communication Experience.

  • Experience working with Latam Region (Colombia, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela).

  • Experience working at a law firm, with knowledge of the industry in Latin America

  • Native-level English communication skills.

  • Experience with integrated communications and knowledge of the marketing mix, including use of digital and social media.

  • Strong judgment and ability to make well-reasoned independent decisions.

  • Self-motivated, proactive and independent, able to work with a minimum of supervision but also a strong team player.

  • Comfortable working across multiple cultures and time zones in a matrix organization.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including pleasant nature and ability to influence others.

  • Organized, detailed oriented individual with good project management skills.

  • Strong client service orientation.

  • Ability to work longer hours and travel as required.
