Description

Role Purpose

We are looking for a Senior Business Development Executive to assist in managing key strategic projects and client initiatives for the Tax Practice Group in the London office.

The London Tax Group is one of the biggest success stories in Baker McKenzie. It has grown in under 5 years from a £9m practice with 35 fee earners to a £45m practice with over 70 fee earners – How? Mainly because it doesn’t do what other law firms do. It has the transactional tax support, tax disputes and wealth management services usually found within law firms, but then has large teams of VAT, Transfer Pricing and dedicated tax planning experts, meaning it can take on high end tax planning work usually performed by Big 4 Accountancy firms. It’s a unique team of lawyers, economists and accountants, what’s more, it’s a fun team and there are lots of exciting projects and opportunities to capitalise on.

The successful candidate will be working side by side with the Advisory Practice’s Senior Business Development Manager and partners to develop the Practice Group’s growth plan, developing and promoting key services lines, client opportunities and cross-selling initiatives. Though the focus on the role is supporting the London team, many projects are international in nature and involve collaborating with other offices and Practice Groups to enhance cross-selling opportunities. It is essential for the role holder to have a strong focus on clients.

The successful candidate will need to liaise with multiple stakeholders across the firm to identify our competitive advantages and bring these to life in marketing materials, presentations and pitches. A love of data analytics is a plus.

We are looking for someone who has a broad mix of experience across the whole business development, marketing and communications skillset.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the execution of BDMC plans for Tax, by delivering high quality BDMC support and bringing in BDMC Specialist and End-to-End functions as required (these functions include central marketing, directories, awards, proposals, events, key client management, data analytics and design teams).
  • Implementing Tax priorities such as client targeting, thought leadership, effective response to requests for proposals and assisting with a range of special projects across the practice group, under the guidance and direct supervision of the Senior Business Development Manager. The role may also include support on special project / cross-practice initiatives as required and as directed by the Senior Business Development Manager.
  • Working with Partners and fee earners to ensure their BDMC requirements are strategically developed, implemented and communicated to other parts of the BDMC function; collaborate with Specialist functions to challenge requests where commercially prudent, e.g. pitch go/no go decisions.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of our client pipeline and revenue movements for use in driving client focused conversations with fee earners through monthly data draw down and analysis. A love of data and pivot tables is a plus here.
  • Maintaining and developing the Firm's profile within tax sector, including a selection of sponsorship, trade body membership and in-house campaign initiatives.
  • Supporting the Partners and other fee earners to identify and implement external profile raising opportunities, including our thought-leadership programme/campaigns, article writing and speaking opportunities; always looking for opportunities internally and externally to promote work on products/propositions
  • Lead and champion the use of social media from helping the tax team focus on content generation, to upskilling the group to regularly post and share our content.
  • To work with colleagues in Tax BDMC, Client Development and Industry Sectors to ensure lawyers are armed with information on latest trends and related hot topics/talking points and use them to generate opportunities. There is a lot of information out there and we can play a big role in joining the dots.
  • Ensuring that content and materials (e.g. capability statements) suitable for BDMC purposes are captured, kept up-to-date and shared; developing new materials for prioritised and additional services lines and opportunities as required.

We are a Firm of individuals from across the globe with different backgrounds, ideas, and points of view who collegially work together to solve complex problems and design practical solutions for our clients. Our multiple perspectives come from many sources, including the diverse ethnicity, culture, gender, nationality, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, parental status, education, social background and life experience of our people.

Our global strategy is focused on our people, our culture, our clients and the communities where we operate.
