The Business Development Advisor will be be instrumental in shaping and executing strategic BD initiatives and play a pivotal role in supporting and executing BD plans tailored for the local market. Utilizing advanced technology tools, the role-holder will analyze data to identify emerging market trends early on. The individual will focus on delivering high-quality client engagement consistently, thereby aiding the business in growth, retention, and market success. 

Collaborating closely with the Partner Group, the role-holder will translate their expectations and aspirations into effective communications for clients and the market. Additionally, they will contribute to strengthening the Baker McKenzie brand alongside the BDMC team, other Business Professionals’ departments and the global Baker Mckenzie network to further strengthen the firm’s brand and ensure our reputation continues to thrive.  Together, the BDMC team ensures that the Baker McKenzie brand is constantly marketed in the best possible way and that commercial opportunities are optimally exploited.

Main responsibilities

  • Taking responsibility for supporting the transactional practice groups in further developing and executing their BD and marketing communication strategies
  • Strategic Pitch Development: Craft compelling pitches, presentations, and commercial proposals that align with our firm's strategic goals; Ensure that all necessary information is meticulously gathered and coordinated for effective client and partner engagement
  • Market Intelligence and Acquisition: Lead on acquisition activities by tracking market developments and commercial activities with clients and prospects; Provide strategic advice on pricing, consult with partners, and develop business plans and pricing models to capitalize on market opportunities
  • Data-driven decision-making: Utilize dashboards and tools to analyze market trends, identify opportunities for client and service development, and track key relationships; Use insights to drive the success of BD initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Relationship Management: Strategically manage relationship data within the CRM system, implementing improvement proposals to enhance client engagement and satisfaction; Ensure that high-quality client interactions are consistently delivered to support business growth and retention
  • Collaborative Efforts: Work closely with local Business Professionals’ departments and the global Baker McKenzie network to strengthen the firm's brand and reputation; Collaboration with the Partner Group will translate their expectations into effective communications for clients and the market
  • Visibility within the office is important, as is stakeholder management; Work together with colleagues within the BDMC team

  • Strategic Business Development & Marketing Communications – Support the various practices in developing and executing effective BD and marketing communication strategies.
  • Powerful Pitches & Commercial Proposals – Create compelling pitches, presentations, and commercial proposals that directly contribute to business success.
  • Market Analysis & Business Acquisition – Monitor market developments, provide strategic pricing advice, and develop business plans to seize opportunities.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making – Use smart dashboards and tools to identify market trends and adjust BD initiatives for maximum impact.
  • Relationship Management – Manage and optimize client relationships, ensuring impactful interactions that lead to growth and loyalty.
  • Collaboration – Work closely with partners, other support departments, and the global Baker McKenzie network to strengthen the brand and reputation.

Technical skills, qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor and/or masters degree
  • Demonstrable experience in a (data-driven) business development role, preferably in a corporate setting and at least eight years in a BD role within the legal profession
  • Experience in stakeholder management
  • Proficient in drafting recommendations and creating creative, valuable ideas
  • Detail-oriented and works accurately and with structure
  • Aims to always exceed expectations and is willing to go the extra mile
  • Strong communicator and provides updates at the right times
  • On track with- and informed about new AI toolings and opportunities to improve our marketing intelligence
  • Self-starting, keeping a clear overview and working independently
  • Able to build and maintain a network, can interact well with different types of people
  • Focus on continuous improvement and not be afraid to challenge your own work
