The Manager Talent Management - People will work collaboratively with associates, leadership teams, and professionals across the business, but specifically in the Taipei office to deliver value-added service, aligned with the strategic direction, vision and values of the office and Firm. 

To act as a strategic business advisor to leadership teams on all people-related issues; act as an employee champion and change agent; assess and anticipate People-related needs; communicate needs proactively with our People team and business management and develop integrated solutions; maintain an effective level of business knowledge about the Taipei office and Firm, its strategic plans, its culture, and its competition. 

This is a highly collaborative role where you will be leading and supervising other TM professionals and requires which requires close liaison with the Regional Director of Talent Management, and all members of the TM and People team in the Asia Pacific region. This role provides a unified, high-quality business partnering service to the leadership of the Firm, practice group leaders, partners, and PBS Directors and their respective teams.


  • Operate as a Business Partner for the office to understand the strategic and operational needs in relation to the people; liaise and coordinate with our People functions (Leadership & Learning, Careers & Performance, Recruitment & Mobility, Inclusion & Diversity) to jointly deliver best-in-class solutions that enable the firm to meet its business requirements
  • Planning and management: partner with leadership teams and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity, retention, workforce planning, and succession planning, and identify training and individual executive coaching needs
  • Consult with supervising partners and /managers to provide day-to-day performance management guidance or human resource advice (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
  • Recruitment: determine needs, evaluate staffing options, liaise with the Recruitment team during planning and offer process, coordinate on-boarding/induction)
  • Mobility:  liaise with Global Mobility Advisory Group on mobility issues and serve as a local point of contact for incoming and outgoing mobility
  • Performance Management (Baker Achieve): manage associate and business professionals' performance management processes, e.g., annual evaluation, Individual Development Plans, and promotion processes, and evaluate performance results with supervisors/managers
  • In conjunction with the Remuneration and Benefits Manager, coordinate and deliver to practice groups and PBS teams the annual salary review and high-performance bonus programs 
  • Career Development: consult as needed on lawyer and business professional programs in partnership with the Leadership and Learning team; provide individual career development coaching recommendations as needed
  • Staff Engagement - actively consult with practice groups and PBS teams in monitoring staff engagement and culture using tools and forums such as BakerYou and regular staff feedback sessions. Assist the business to develop options to develop and enhance a collaborative, inclusive high-performance culture, especially in retaining high-performing talent
  • In conjunction with the relevant partner or PBS Director assist in managing organizational change programs including but not limited to strategic planning, communication strategy to partnership, industrial process impact on staff, and impact on service being provided to the business by the team  
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations 
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance; seek guidance from the Employment team as needed/required 
  • Provide human resource policy guidance and interpretation
  • Develop contract terms for new hires, promotions, and transfers
  • Process employee terminations to comply with Firm guidelines, including conducting exit interview discussions
  • Partner with the People and leadership teams to help develop optimal People strategy, infrastructure, and resources for Taipei
  • Lead and manage a team of TM professional staff. Responsible for supervision, allocation, and delivery of quality work to the business, as well as support, development, and engagement of the TM team. 
  • Analyse trends and metrics in partnership with the Human Resource team to develop solutions, programs, and policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree focusing on Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Development, Management, or other related areas; professional human resources certification highly desired
  • Extensive experience in HR/Talent Management, preferably in a professional services firm environment
  • Strong knowledge of HR functional disciplines (employee relations, staffing, compensation, organizational development, training, and employee development)
  • Knowledge of Local Employment legislation including but not limited to the Labor Standard Law and the related Law
  • Experience working across multiple locations and jurisdictions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent written and spoken English is required
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and drive results with a sense of urgency in setting strategies and executing against the objectives
  • Proven ability to influence, interact and consult with senior leaders, strong collaboration skills, and effective stakeholder management
  • Strong coaching, counseling, business acumen, and overall communication skills
  • High level of discretion, diplomacy, and a commitment to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
