The role -

Baker McKenzie's Employment group is a highly active area of our Australian practice. Our employment lawyers advise on all aspects of labour law including the full range of employment litigation (including litigation designed to protect an employer's IP and customer base), advice relating to employment contracts (their creation, interpretation and termination), multi-jurisdictional projects, employment aspects of large corporate transactions, anti-discrimination, industrial instrument compliance, industrial disputes, and the making of enterprise agreements. The practice also encompasses market leading practices in occupational health and safety and modern slavery. Although the practice primarily acts for employers, our lawyers also represent executive level employees.

Our Employment lawyers have extensive litigation experience in all aspects of employment and industrial law, and appear regularly before Federal and State Tribunals and Courts.

Additionally, the Employment practice provides a wide range of educational seminars for managers and in-house counsel to ensure compliance with (among other things) legislation relating to:

  • unfair dismissal and general protections;
  • occupational health and safety; and
  • equal opportunity and anti-discrimination.

The Employment group frequently reports on Australian employment issues to overseas clients and is familiar with the differing concepts in employment law between different jurisdictions.

What we're looking for -

  • 8+ years' experience (not less than 3 years as a Senior Associate or equivalent);
  • ability to work autonomously and with commercial nous;
  • experience in the direct management of clients and discharge of matters;
  • experience in both advisory and litigious employment-related work (including experience in conducting matters before the Fair Work Commission);
  • dedicated and driven to assist in the development of the team and practice;
  • demonstrated that they are a true technical expert; and
  • strong academic qualifications.
