The Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a 2-4 year PQE Associate to join our Intellectual Property practice in Sydney.
The Team
Baker McKenzie has the world's pre-eminent global Intellectual Property practice. Our IP practice in Australia is recognised as a leader in the field. It is an integral part of the Firm's IP network both globally and in the Asia Pacific region.
Our team covers all aspects of the protection, exploitation and enforcement of IP rights, including anti-counterfeiting. We regularly conduct litigation for market-leading clients across a wide range of industries, and every day brings new opportunities for our specialist IP disputes lawyers.
Our IP disputes practice covers "crown jewels" litigation as well as anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy actions. We also operate the largest trade mark portfolio practice of any law firm in Australia for many of the world's most famous brand owners. We handle complex trade marks, copyright, patent, design, trade secrets and trade practices disputes and associated advisory work, and also act in a wide range of IP-related transactions.
Our clients cover a range of industry sectors including healthcare; information technology and electronics; media and education; apparel, cosmetics and fashion; food and beverage; motor vehicles; and finance.
What we're looking for
- 2-4 years’ experience, preferably from a specialised IP practice;
- experience in contentious intellectual property and consumer law matters, including trade mark, copyright, registered design, domain names, Australian Consumer Law and passing off actions; brand protection advisory matters, enforcement and anti-counterfeiting disputes;
- experience handling IP and consumer law disputes before the Federal Court.
- experience handling opposition proceedings before the Trade Marks Office, including preparing advice, preparing cease and desist correspondence, drafting Court documents, evidence, submissions, and working with counsel;
- strong industry knowledge, experience or interest in the Consumer Goods & Retail (CRG) and Luxury Goods sectors;
- relevant experience in a top tier or leading international firm preferred;
- a strong client service orientation;
- strong technical, drafting and commercial skills;
- excellent analytical, communication, and research skills;
- a commitment to high work standards and strong attention to detail;
- an ability to demonstrate initiative and proactivity;
- an ability to develop strong relationships with clients and to take responsibility for this relationship;
- an ability to work well in a team environment (including across Australian offices and internationally);
- relevant legal qualifications; and
- a willingness to learn.
