Main Responsibilities

  • Lead the regional Business Management team; manage business operations across Practice Groups with the objective of improving profitability, increasing revenues and optimizing efficiency across all activities
  • Advise and support the regional Practice Group Leader on strategic planning and implementation, driving business growth and operations of one of the regional Practice Groups
  • Take accountability for effective execution of strategy & planning, financial performance, people performance and practice operations across all Practice Groups
  • Monitor, analyze and seek to improve Practice Group's financial performance across the region; report on key metrics to the core leadership team and develop plans to address issues
  • Work with the Directors of Business Management for the Advisory, Contentious and Transactional groups on the development and execution of the Firm’s global strategy, ensuring that regional Practice Groups are aligned and delivering against plan
  • Work with the regional management, to formulate and execute aspects of the Firm's strategy for regional Practice Groups
  • Work with Business Development, Industry Group and regional leadership to mould strategy, create actionable business plans which drive growth and improve profitability and ensure they are implemented sustainably
  • Advise and support management including the Chief Executive (CE), Management Committee (MC), Practice Group leaders (PG) and Industry Group leaders (IG) with particular focus on leading strategic Practice Groups initiatives across the region which leverage the Firm’s geographic, industry and client reach, with a view to building market presence and generating profitability
  • Ad-hoc support on thought leadership, information services, credentials repository/deals collection, practice technology, rising stars, regional training and meetings, project management, pricing and other projects as assigned
  • Proactively contribute to creating new service lines and developing existing ones with support of the global Services team
  • Ensure widespread effective adoption of professional business services, leverage Baker McKenzie's End-to-End Centers and ensure the success of key In-Market roles
  • Coordinate with other functional departments within the Firm's Global Services group to ensure those departments are properly supporting the group
  • Foster positive and open communication within the group's membership and with other groups within the Firm; guide the Firm's external messaging with clients and the marketplace

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor's degree required; an MBA is desirable
  • Extensive professional management experience in a global setting, ideally in a professional services environment with a demonstrable record of improving metrics
  • Proficiency in law firm operations and an understanding of the elements of law firm profitability at practice group, service line, client, matter and attorney level
  • Experience with business management, including an understanding of the challenges of operating in different markets globally
  • Proficiency in using MS Office applications, including PowerPoint and advanced functions of Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple complex operations with continual attention to detail (including accuracy with numbers)
  • Outstanding Leadership skills, high IQ and EQ, with an ability to coach and inspire others
  • Appreciation of, and experience of matrix management across multiple offices/countries
  • Experience conducting complex qualitative and quantitative analysis, interpreting results and suggesting action plans
  • Experience coordinating people in different locations and cultures
  • Ability to work effectively in informal teams and collaborate cross practice and cross function in a global organization
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills; effective communicator at all organizational levels
