Shira Sasson

Shira is a member of the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the Firm's Toronto office. Her practice focuses on disputes, brand management and enforcement, and health regulatory matters. Shira also assists with the Firm's pro bono initiatives, providing legal support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Shira joined Baker McKenzie as a summer student in 2018, and subsequently completed her Articles of Clerkship. Prior to joining the Firm, Shira completed a Masters of Science in pharmacology and a Masters of Public Health. Through her time in school, she interned for the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, and later with a global pharmaceutical company, where she advised on health regulatory and governmental affairs.

Practice Focus

Shira assists on a wide range of patent and trademark litigation and transactional matters. She also advises on domestic and cross-border regulatory matters, primarily with respect to food and drug compliance. Shira has assisted clients in the healthcare, food, transportation, technology, and entertainment industries.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Representing one of North America's largest freight railroad networks in a patent infringement suit pertaining to online e-commerce customer facing tools

  • Advises multinational food marketers on advertising and labeling compliance on products for Canadian and US markets

  • Advises global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies on drug and device importation and distribution in Canada and the US, including on COVID-19 counter-measures

  • Assists various domestic and global clients with trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement

  • Assisted with license and permit compliance matters in a major pharmaceutical acquisition
