Biography

Kalli McCoy is an associate in Baker McKenzie’s North America Litigation and Government Enforcement Practice Group in Houston. Her practice focuses on complex commercial disputes and international arbitration. Kalli began her career with the Firm as a summer associate in 2019.

Kalli is a member of Baker McKenzie’s Commercial Litigation and International Arbitration Subgroups, and is an active member of the Firm’s Women in Arbitration Group. In law school, she served as articles editor of the Texas Review of Litigation and as staff editor of the Texas International Law Journal. Kalli also spent two semesters doing appellate work with the University of Texas Law School’s Supreme Court Clinic.

Practice Focus

Kalli represents and advises clients on complex domestic and international disputes across a variety of industries. Kalli has experience representing clients in international arbitrations governed by the ICC, ICDR, and other forums, and domestic arbitrations under the American Arbitration Association rules. Her practice encompasses nearly all aspects of litigation, and she represents clients in all litigation phases in state and federal court.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represent Russian national in series of coordinated proceedings enforcing USD 150 million arbitration award, including briefing and argument preparation for US Supreme Court case Yegiazaryan v. Smagin, which we ultimately won.
  • Represented surviving spouse of investor in franchise-restaurant business in buyout dispute with husband's business partners. Second-chaired week-long arbitration Merits Hearing and secured more than USD 30 million in damages for breach of fiduciary duty and contract claims.
  • Represent leading restaurant franchise in ongoing ICC arbitration regarding termination of certain franchise agreements.
  • Represent leading cannabis company in various litigation matters involving securities and contract claims.
  • Advise major hotel franchise on termination of franchise agreement and related trade-secret and intellectual property claims.
  • Represent US-based, multinational EPC contractor in bringing claim for entitlement to disputed change orders and associated losses worth in excess of USD 50 million in the construction of a major oil refinery.
  • Assisted in investigation and response to cross-border cybersecurity incident for major social media company.
  • Represent investment advisory services company in ICDR arbitration and subsequent federal litigation regarding alleged breach of contract claims.
  • Represent a private drilling and exploration company in numerous onshore and offshore personal injury and wrongful-death claims in state and federal courts in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Routinely investigate claims from date of incident, address indemnity and defense issues, and prepare cases for favorable resolution at trial or mediation.
