Biography

Rob is a counsel in Baker McKenzie’s Employment & Compensation team. Rob plays a lead role in our pay transparency, investigations, litigation and data protection practices, and has particular expertise in the fields of equal pay, complex investigations, tribunal litigation, industrial relations and data protection. Rob qualified into the team in September 2015 and has completed secondments to clients in the media and aviation sectors.

Rob has been ranked as an ‘Associate to Watch’ in Chambers UK since 2022, describing him as an “proactive, responsive and gives sound advice." and "Rob is efficient, he is effective and he is a pleasure to deal with.", as well as noting praise for his work on investigations and litigation.

Practice Focus

Rob works for a wide range of clients, including British Airways, the BBC, Accenture, AbbVie, Goldman Sachs and Triton.

Litigation – leading the defence and strategy for a wide array of tribunal claims, including claims for discrimination, victimisation, unfair dismissal, and claims under Working Time legislation.

Investigations – conducting and advising on complex investigations involving issues ranging from conflicts of belief, bullying, harassment and sexual harassment as well as navigating complex questions of privilege and responding to DSARs and FOIA requests.

Business protection and AI – as well as continuing to advise clients on the broader data protection compliance, Rob has worked on a number of AI governance projects and advises clients on the legal and practical implications of rolling out new AI technologies. Rob also has experience across business protection matters – from advising on confidentiality and restrictive covenants, to managing injunctive relief applications.

Industrial Relations – advising on collective agreements, industrial action and other industrial issues including the significant implications of the new Employment Rights Act changes.

Assisting clients with redundancy programmes and senior executive terminations.

Corporate transactions – advising on acquisition and disposal of large businesses involving complex and multi-jurisdictional employment issues, including listed-company transactions and take-privates

Coordinating complex day to day employment advice, including conducting large scale multijurisdictional surveys, disciplinaries, grievances and sickness absence.

Rob has spoken widely on topics ranging from equal pay and the EU Pay Transparency Directive, to investigations, HR Data Privacy and the rise of Artificial Intelligence. Rob delivers internal and external training sessions regularly. He has had numerous articles published, and authored the Practical Law practice note on the EU Pay Transparency Directive. He is a regular contributor to the Firm’s HR Privacy Newsletter, as well as writing articles on European Works Councils, holiday pay and compliance issues and many others. Rob also co-authored a BYOD policy for Practical Law.

Firm Committee Memberships

Rob takes an active role in the Firm's fundraising efforts. He is a vocal advocate for the Ambitious Together Foundation, and often utilises his cycling and running hobbies to raise money for charity.
