Iñigo Gené
Biography
Iñigo is a team leader in the IPTech department and head of the Brand Management team in the Barcelona office.
Iñigo is a member of the ICAB and of the Competition and Industrial Property Law Section (Sección de Derecho de la Competencia y Propiedad Industrial) of the ICAB. He is also a member of the AIPPI. He holds a degree in Business Administration and Management (ADE) and a master's degree in Intellectual Property and New Technologies (ESADE).
Iñigo has almost 15 years' experience as an intellectual property lawyer. His main area of practice is legal advice on the brand management of global trademark portfolios, defining the best strategy to follow to protect trademarks before different trademark offices globally. Iñigo advises not only Spanish companies, but also European and American companies to manage their global trademark portfolios efficiently and maximizing their value. Iñigo is also involved in reviewing license, distribution and assignment agreements.
He also participated in a secondment program for a Swiss pharmaceutical multinational, leading the trademarks team and taking decisions in different M&A operations from a trademark perspective. He also reviewed the distribution and licensing agreements of pharmaceutical products worldwide.
He is also collaborating with the London and New York offices, managing some of their clients' global trademark portfolios in the fields of fashion, pharma, consumer goods, and food and beverage. He acts as the project manager.
Iñigo also collaborates with ISDE on the intellectual property master's degree, giving some classes related to trademarks.

Representative Legal Matters
- Advised a fashion company on managing its global trademark portfolio, coordinating all actions against third-party infringers and designing the best legal strategy to follow to protect its trademark worldwide.
- Advised a fashion company on managing its global trademark portfolio, including advising the company on a strategy to efficiently manage its global portfolio in all jurisdictions of interest and maximize the value of the marks.
- Managed the food trademark portfolio of a multinational consumer goods company and all the companies that are part of it. This includes reviewing all actions related to filing new trademarks worldwide and defending the registrability of the trademark applications before local trademark offices.
- Participated in three different secondments at a pharmaceutical company, which mainly involved leading and co-leading (depending on the secondment) the trademark practice within the company, focusing principally on supporting the business in all M&A operations where marks are involved and reviewing license and distribution agreements.
- Participated in the global Baker McKenzie team that was involved in the legal assessment to select a name for the new company resulting from a spin-off from a multinational pharmaceutical company. This included leading the team that coordinated and conducted searches for different names of interest for the client in order to select the company's new name.
- Managed the global trademark portfolio of a pharmaceutical company, one of the most important companies in Spain in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.
