Katia Contos
Biography
Katia is a senior associate in the Baker McKenzie Dispute Resolution team, based in London. Katia has worked on a range of matters including commercial litigation, international arbitration and general advisory work. Katia has experience in both commercial arbitration and investment treaty disputes, with experience acting for parties in disputes under LCIA, ICC, ICSID and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. She acts for and against states and state bodies, with experience in enforcement and large infrastructure projects.
Katia is qualified in England & Wales and admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW, Australia.
During her training, Katia was seconded to the Chancery Division of the High Court for three months as a Judicial Assistant. Katia previously worked at the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) as a Casework Assistant and as Assistant to the Director General, where she had extensive first hand-experience of LCIA administered disputes.

Acting for Kuwait in ICSID arbitration proceedings brought by Egyptian claimants relating to a real estate project in Kuwait City.

Acting for an industrial plant and engineering contractor in its defence of an ICC arbitration involving claims brought by a subcontractor related to works on a state-owned oil refinery in the Middle East, with over 100 sub-heads of claim worth more than USD 80 million.

Acting in enforcement proceedings of an ICSID award worth over USD 124 million.

Acting for an industrial manufacturing company in its defence of an ICC arbitration worth over USD 335 million related to a joint venture dispute.

Acting for a forestry and sawmilling company in English High Court proceedings relating to claims under an agency agreement.

Acting for a wealth management group in enforcement proceedings in the UK of a foreign judgment worth over USD 40 million.

Acting for an energy company in an UNCITRAL arbitration involving claims under an indemnity agreement.
