Biography

Natalia Bernal is a staff attorney in the Corporate & Securities Group of Baker McKenzie’s Toronto and Belfast offices. Prior to joining the Firm, Natalia practiced in cross-border M&A for over five years at a leading global law firm in Colombia and completed her articling at a top Canadian firm. She focuses on M&A, private equity transactions, and corporate restructurings, supporting matters across North America, Latin America, and Europe. She is admitted to practice in Ontario and Colombia.

Practice Focus

Natalia's practice focuses on cross-border transactions, including reorganizations, integrations, and M&A matters. She advises on multijurisdictional transactions, coordinating with global teams and acting as a regional point of contact. Her work includes structuring and implementing cross-border transactions, managing multijurisdictional workstreams, and advising on legal risk and transaction execution in high-value matters.

Representative Legal Matters

Significant experience prior to joining Baker McKenzie:

  • Advised a Mexican pharmaceutical company on the sale of its Colombian portfolio company to a Canadian private equity fund.
  • Advised a Canadian private equity fund on its investment in a Latin American electric bus fleet operator (USD 100 million), supporting the expansion of sustainable urban transportation infrastructure.
  • Advised a global private equity fund on the acquisition of a Mexican digital transformation and IT services provider with operations across more than 11 jurisdictions in Europe, the United States, and Latin America (USD 119 million). 
  • Advised a global private equity fund on the acquisition of a regional hotel chain to support market expansion across eight jurisdictions in Latin America, the United States and Central America (USD 200 million).
  • Advised a South American private equity fund on the acquisition of a Colombian healthcare provider specializing in chronic disease treatment (USD 55 million).
