Bithika Basu
Biography
Bithika is a senior associate with Baker McKenzie's London office, joining as a trainee solicitor in September 2012, completing departmental rotations in the Corporate and Banking & Finance departments. During her training, Bithika was seconded to Rio Tinto and was based in their London offices working as part of the in-house legal team. Bithika qualified into the Energy, Mining and Infrastructure Group in October 2014. Post qualification, Bithika completed a secondment to EDF Energy, working as part of the in-house Generation Legal team.

Bithika has experience in advising clients on project development, construction and M&A transactions in the energy, mining and infrastructure sectors in the UK, EMEA and CIS regions.
Representative Legal Matters
Natural Resources
- Acting for Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden) in relation to Alcoa's disposition of its interest in the rolling business of the joint venture between Ma'aden and Alcoa for a fully integrated aluminium complex in Saudi Arabia, including the renegotiation of the shareholder and project agreements.
- Acting for the seller in respect of put and call option arrangements in respect of a mineral processing complex in Saudi Arabia.
Oil and Gas
- Advising Sound Energy Plc on various aspects of the acquisition and development of its gas assets in Morocco including (1) its farm-in relating to the Oil & Gas Investment Fund's assets; and (2) its synthetic farm-out with Schlumberger.
- Advising Tailwind Energy in relation to its acquisition of EOG Resources' UKCS upstream oil and gas portfolio.
Power / Infrastructure
- Acting for a client in respect of its proposed role as sponsor on a carbon capture and storage project in the Middle East.
- Advising Marubeni Corporation and POSCO Energy in connection with their successful bid for the design, financing, construction, ownership, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of the 300MW Morupule B Phase II Units 5 & 6 coal-fired power generation plant situated in the Palapye Botswana, on an IPP basis.
Construction
- Acting for CIMB Bank on the provision of financing for the development of phases 1 and 2 of the Battersea Power Station and three other London-based commercial and residential developments, involving due diligence on, among other things, a range of construction contracts and consultancy appointments.
- Acting for Maybank and a consortium of lenders on the provision of financing of the Royal Wharf development in the Docklands, London, involving due diligence on, among other things, a range of construction contracts and consultancy appointments for the development of residential and commercial units.
M&A/Joint Ventures/Corporate
- Acting for Sime Darby Plantation on the sale of its subsidiary with a palm oil concession in Liberia to a Liberian manufacturer of household health and cleaning products.
- Acting for Inter Pipeline Ltd. and its European storage subsidiary, Inter Terminals Ltd., on the acquisition of NuStar Energy, L.P.'s European bulk liquid storage business.
Corporate Responsibility
- Advising the London Symphony Orchestra on various matters.
- Volunteered at the University House Legal Advice Centre in Bethnal Green, London.
