Georgina Barnes
Biography
Georgina is a senior associate in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group in Sydney with a focus on corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration. She joined the Sydney office as a summer clerk in 2018. In 2023-2024 she spent a year working in the firm’s London office.
Practice Focus
Georgina primarily acts for clients in corporations law and contractual disputes. She is experienced in litigation in many of Australia’s courts and in both domestic and international arbitration. Georgina has experience across the full lifecycle of litigation, from pre-action strategy and pleadings to trial and appeals.
Representative Legal Matters
- Represented a manufacturer and supplier in London-seated arbitration arising out of solar farm projects in Australia.
- Acted for a multinational company in an M&A dispute involving multiple New South Wales Supreme Court proceedings against the seller in respect of claims of breach of warranties, misleading or deceptive conduct and calculation of a payment adjustment.
- Acted for a seller in an M&A dispute involving the recovery of unpaid amounts and the defence of claims for breach of warranty and misleading or deceptive conduct.
- Acted for a multinational cosmetics company in a contractual dispute with a local retailer in the Victorian Supreme Court, including on appeal.
- Acted for company directors and a company in Federal Court proceedings brought by an aggrieved shareholder in relation to a selective capital reduction.
- Worked with a global team to advise a multinational healthcare company on competition law considerations and merger clearance procedures.
- Acted for an international medical devices company in a Federal Court class action alleging negligence and breaches of consumer legislation.
- Acted for director defendants in Victorian Supreme Court class action proceedings alleging failure to disclose information, and involving questions of market-based causation.
