Leading global law firm, Baker McKenzie has advised RockawayX, a global digital asset investment platform with approximately USD 2 billion in assets under management, on the acquisition of Relayer Capital, a digital asset hedge fund founded by Austin Barack. Following the transaction, Relayer will become the RockawayX Liquid Opportunities Fund.
The Fund is a directional long/short hedge fund strategy focused on identifying undervalued liquid tokens and crypto-related equities. The acquisition adds a liquid fundamental strategy to RockawayX’s existing investment platform and expands the firm’s presence in the US. RockawayX also operates dedicated digital asset infrastructure and on-chain liquidity divisions.
The cross-border Baker McKenzie team was led by Private Equity Funds Partner, Nick Benson and Senior Associate, Matthew Gamble (both London) and also included M&A Partner Michal Berkner (London), Corporate Associate, Zach Bassen (New York), and Tax Partner Christina Georgaklis (London).
Commenting on the transaction, Nick Benson, said: “We are pleased to have supported RockawayX on this strategically important transaction. As investor interest in digital assets continues to increase, this deal highlights the increasing sophistication of the sector and plays directly to our strengths in advising on complex, cross-border investment platform and fund-related transactions.”
