Jeff Martino Quoted in Global Competition Review on Egg Industry Price-Fixing Allegations

Jeff Martino, a partner in Baker McKenzie’s Antitrust & Competition Practice, was recently quoted in Global Competition Review (GCR) in connection with a class action lawsuit alleging that major US egg producers conspired to manipulate industry benchmarks..

In the article, Martino commented that the allegations related to providing false information to a benchmarking service are different from past allegations, but that they may be difficult to prove unless there is strong direct evidence of collusion with the intent to manipulate the rates.  

The case raises questions about how companies respond to market disruptions and the role of antitrust enforcement related to industry benchmarks.
