Baker & McKenzie (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) ("Baker McKenzie") advised OREX SAI, INC. (“OREX SAI”) — a joint venture between NTT DOCOMO, INC. and NEC Corporation — on its multi-year comprehensive commercial agreement with PT Solusi Sinergi Digital, Tbk (“SURGE”), a leading Indonesian digital infrastructure company. This project will advance the Affordable Internet Program in Indonesia, bringing high-speed internet access to unconnected and underserved regions across the country to support the Indonesian government’s vision of nationwide digital inclusion.
Under this agreement, SURGE will lead the way in providing affordable internet services along with all of the infrastructure required for FWA implementation. OREX SAI will provide its cutting-edge Open RAN-based 5G FWA solutions to SURGE, ensuring cost-effective, scalable, and high-performance network infrastructure.
This strategic partnership between SURGE and OREX SAI underscores the strength of the Indonesia-Japan technological relationship and the two countries' shared commitment to digital inclusion and economic empowerment. The network roll-out is set to begin in the second half of this year, with phased expansions to maximize coverage and impact.
The project was led in Tokyo by Corporate/M&A group partner Yutaka Kimura. Yutaka was supported by Corporate/M&A group counsel Masao Tozaki and associate Takahiro Toda.
