On 24 July 2026, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (the BCRA) issued Communication “A” 8460 (the “Communication”), which incorporates the US dollar as a currency permitted for the receipt of deposits in payroll accounts (cuentas sueldo).
The Communication updates the regulatory framework applicable to payroll accounts, allowing employers to pay employees’ remuneration in either Argentine pesos or US dollars, while maintaining the fee-free status of payroll accounts up to the amount of credits arising from the employment relationship.
This amendment stems from the new provisions introduced by the Labor Modernization Law (Law No. 27,802) into the Employment Contract Law (Law No. 20,744), considering that the regulations previously contemplated payment only in Argentine pesos.
The Communication entered into force on 27 July 2026.
Jeronimo Argonz, Associate, and Juana Bardin, Associate Jr, have contributed to this legal update.
