In brief

On 21 July 2026, the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (the BCRA) issued Communication “A” 8457 (the “Communication”), updating the consolidated text on the Principles for Financial Market Infrastructures (PIMF, for its acronym in Spanish) and incorporating new entities within the scope of the regulations.

In focus

The Communication amends the PIMF framework by expressly including administrators of electronic funds transfer payment schemes among the list of systemically important Financial Market Infrastructures (IMF, for its acronym in Spanish) subject to the PIMF, in line with the provisions previously established by BCRA Communication “A” 8411. The entities incorporated as IMF are Interbanking S.A., Compensadora Electrónica S.A., Newpay S.A.U., and Red Link S.A.

Notably, IMF are required to maintain governance frameworks, comprehensive risk management systems (covering credit, liquidity, operational, and business risks), access and participation rules for their services, and self-assessment systems.

The Communication entered into force on 22 July 2026.

Jeronimo Argonz, Associate, and Juana Bardin, Associate Jr, have contributed to this legal update.
