Biography

Matthieu Hucker is a senior associate in Baker McKenzie's Banking and Finance Department, based in London. Matthieu acts primarily on a variety of restructuring, insolvency and special situations mandates – typically cross-border – for clients ranging from creditors (including both private and institutional lenders) and debtors (including companies and sponsors) to insolvency practitioners, directors and agents.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised Global Loan Agency Services Limited (GLAS), the primary global independent debt administration services provider, on the financial restructuring of the multinational retail holding company Steinhoff International Holdings N.V., and its subsidiaries, implemented by a Dutch WHOA (Wet Homologatie Onderhands Akkoord) Restructuring Plan.
  • Advised a European media company on the acquisition of a group of English media companies from the administrators.
  • Advised the insolvency practitioners in relation to maintenance of an insolvent company's intellectual property portfolio during a trading administration.
  • Advised a lender client in relation to its intra-group financing and security arrangements with its retail subsidiary, against a back-drop of financial uncertainty.
  • Advised a client based in the People's Republic of China on its acquisition of an airline manufacturing business via a pre-packaged administration.
  • Advised a Middle-Eastern originated oil and gas investment company regarding its members' voluntary liquidation and related restructuring.
  • Advised a European asset-backed private debt fund in relation to its enforcement options regarding a financially distressed German real estate holding and development group.
  • Advised a European asset-backed private debt fund on its position as mezzanine lender to a group of English and Northern Irish companies experiencing financial distress in relation to a portfolio of leisure rental properties.
  • Advised a European alternative investment platform in relation to its enforcement options regarding an unfinished German commercial real estate development project with German property companies and Luxembourg holding companies, including as to the insolvencies of English holding and guarantor entities.
