Marta Flores
Biography
Marta Flores Segura is an of counsel in the Litigation and Arbitration Department of Baker McKenzie’s Madrid office and a tenured professor (profesora titular) of commercial law at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. She holds a PhD in laws and two master's degrees in laws. Her practice focuses on insolvency, restructuring and corporate law, with two monographs and numerous academic articles and book chapters. Her research activity has been widely recognized, receiving several prestigious academic awards and with a constant participation in national and international research projects. She has conducted research stays at the Max Planck Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht (Hamburg) and at the Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza.” Marta is also an active member of the International Insolvency Institute.

Marta focuses her practice on insolvency litigation, restructuring processes and complex commercial disputes. Drawing on her dual career as an academic and a consultant, she advises clients on insolvency proceedings, pre‑insolvency mechanisms, creditor negotiations and cross‑border restructuring frameworks. - Advised a purchaser in civil litigation before the Madrid courts concerning a dispute under a share purchase agreement, in which the sellers seek payment of a holdback and contingent consideration totaling EUR 7.6 million following the acquisition of a minority stake in a Spanish renewable energy company.
- Advised a leading logistics solutions provider in litigation against a major airport services operator concerning the operation and maintenance of automated baggage‑handling systems at key Spanish airports, including the challenge of penalties imposed during contract performance and a claim for indirect costs arising from the extension of an additional contract for the installation of new explosive‑detection systems.
- Advised an international pharmaceutical company in relation to a claim for damages allegedly arising from a clinical trial.
- Advised a purchaser in civil litigation before the Madrid courts concerning a dispute under a share purchase agreement, in which the sellers seek payment of a holdback and contingent consideration totaling EUR 7.62 million following the acquisition of a minority stake in a Spanish renewable energy company.
- Advised an international education group in litigation arising from the partial collapse of a school building in Madrid, pursuing claims against the architect and construction company responsible for the renovation works carried out prior to the incident.
- Advised a services company in proceedings before the High Court of Justice of Madrid concerning an application to void an arbitral award, after having successfully represented the client in the underlying arbitration.
- Advised an international advisory firm in litigation against several competitors and former executives involving allegations of unfair competition, including the planned creation of a rival business, the unlawful solicitation of clients and key employees, and the misuse of trade secrets obtained while the defendants held senior positions at the client’s organization.
