Nicolai regularly leads high-profile, cross-border investigations for DAX40 and other multinational companies involving allegations of fraud, corruption, financial crime, regulatory breaches, cyber incidents and board-level misconduct. Many of these matters involve parallel investigations by prosecutors, regulators or international enforcement bodies.

In addition, Nicolai designs and implements compliance frameworks and governance systems, including whistleblowing infrastructures, internal control systems and global risk assessments. His work focuses on enabling organizations to manage regulatory exposure, strengthen resilience and maintain stakeholder trust in critical situations.

His industry experience includes life sciences, automotive, industrials, financial services and natural resources.

• Led supervisory board investigation into allegations of financial misconduct at executive board level in parallel with criminal investigations by public prosecutors.
• Directed investigation into alleged misappropriation of approximately EUR 500 million in public funds; parallel investigation by OLAF.
• Conducted multi-jurisdictional bribery investigation across seven European countries for a listed automotive company involving significant enforcement exposure.
• Advised on investigation, dispute strategy and termination of a cross-border joint venture with an Asian business partner.
• Led sensitive investigation into alleged misconduct of a board member of a DAX40 company.
• Conducted supervisory board investigation in connection with allegations of embezzlement in a multibillion-euro transaction in the life sciences sector.
• Advised on compliance due diligence for a multibillion-euro strategic investment by a DAX40 company.
