Luis Carlos Balderrama-Tarin

Luis has more than 20 years of experience in litigating Tax, Custom and Administrative matters before the Federal Administrative Justice Courts. He focuses his practice on tax and customs litigation, challenging resolutions issued by the Customs and Tax Authorities and advising clients in those matters. He also has extensive experience in corporate taxes and regarding other taxes such as the value added tax, and planning. He also assists manufacturing companies (Maquiladora) in connection with the audit procedures initiated by the Customs and Tax Authorities.

• Support in Tax litigation related to the tax treatment for incentives received by companies for research and development centers located in northern and central Mexico, contributed to secure favorable Court rulings.
• Support in the Challenge of multi-million tax assessment issued against pharmaceutical and maquiladora Industry companies for disallowed deductions, securing favorable resolutions.
• Handling of complex customs and tax audits.
• He has participated in handling complex issues related to non-existent operations (sham invoices), in which it was possible to prove that the goods were actually acquired or that the services were actually received.
• Coordinate self-correction procedures to mitigate the exposure of companies to multimillion tax liabilities.
• Successful handling of tax audits related to the application of maquiladora tax incentives.
• He has handled for different clients, conclusive agreements, and complaints before the Taxpayer Ombudsman, obtaining satisfactory results.

He has received various awards from the Maquiladora Industry Association (INDEX), for his participation as a speaker in various seminars given to its members.
