Leading global law firm, Baker McKenzie, is pleased to announce that Kate Corby has been appointed as Global Head of International Arbitration.
Kate has over two decades' experience of representing clients in complex litigation and arbitration, with a focus on arbitration of construction, engineering and infrastructure related disputes. She has handled arbitrations under the rules of all of the major arbitral institutions and ad hoc, seated in London and around the world and under a wide range of governing laws. Kate also has significant experience in advising on product liability, safety and regulatory compliance.
Some of Kate’s recent matters include acting in several ICC arbitrations concerning construction of solar farms, a SIAC arbitration resulting from a sanctions driven exit from a high-profile construction project in Russia, a dispute arising out of construction of a Gas to Energy plant in South America and an LCIA arbitration claim brought by a Middle Eastern smelting company against an Egyptian customer.
Alongside her practice, Kate is a keen advocate for ID&E both in the firm and the wider market. She is the organiser of the London chapter of Arbitration Lunch Match, a global networking initiative that connects female international arbitration practitioners for "blind date" lunches, one of the LCIA's EDI Champions, sits on the Executive Committee of the Equal Representation of Expert's Pledge and the Board of ArbitralWomen, and also co-chairs the firm’s BakerWomen affinity group in London.
Commenting on her appointment, Kate, said: “After working at Baker McKenzie since I was a trainee and helping to shape our arbitration practice, I am looking forward to rising to the challenge of leading the team and supporting our fantastic group of lawyers across the globe as we focus on our next stage of growth.”
