Saudi Arabia: New Law on Geographical Indications

In brief

On 11 November 2025, Saudi Arabia issued Cabinet Decision No. 360/1447 approving a new Law on the Protection of Geographical Indications, by virtue of Royal Decree No. M/102 dated 17 November 2025. The Law was subsequently approved by Royal Decree No. M/102 dated 26/05/1447 H corresponding to 17 November 2025. The Law was published in Umm Al-Qura Gazette, Issue No. 5125, and enters into force 180 days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The Implementing Regulation of the Law was subsequently approved by the Board of Directors of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) under Administrative Decision No. 01/39/2026/1447, and was published in Umm Al-Qura Gazette, Issue No. 5161 dated 5/12/1447 H corresponding to 21 May 2026. The Implementing Regulation enters into force on the same date as the Law itself.
