Biography

Deborah "Deb" You is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Washington, DC Office, as a member of the Firm's Global Transactional Practice Group and Global Funds Group. Deb began her career with the Firm as a summer associate in the DC office.

Actively involved in the Firm's Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity Initiatives, Deb previously served as the DC Office Chair of the Baker Asian Legal Network (BALN). She currently serves as the North America Co-Chair of BALN and has been shortlisted by Chambers and Partners as a “DEI Future Leader.”

Deb also regularly participates in pro-bono projects including previously serving as a member of a core team with respect to global child justice social advocacy initiatives.

Practice Focus

Deb advises clients on international and domestic transactional matters, with a focus in private equity fund formation and transactions. She advises private equity fund managers on structuring, formation, and marketing matters from a corporate and securities law compliance perspective. Deb also advises investors on fund investments, co-investments, fund reviews, and complex joint ventures.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised a global insurance company on the divestiture of its personal accident, supplemental health and life insurance businesses in six Asia Pacific markets to another global insurance company for approximately USD 5.4 billion.
  • Advised a global software company in post-acquisition integration projects with a particular focus in certain EMEA countries.
  • Advised a nationally recognized commercial real estate operating company on three successful complex rollup transactions.
  • Advised numerous sponsors on the launch and design of their Delaware statutory trust offerings.
  • Advised numerous nationally recognized commercial real estate operating companies on structuring, formation, and compliance in connection with establishing domestic and/or cross-border private equity funds.
