Alecia Thompson

Alecia provides commercial, practical and accessible advice across the employment lifecycle. She works closely with in-house legal teams, human resources professionals and senior executives on strategic workforce issues, sensitive disputes and employment aspects of major transactions.

Alecia has particular experience in the following areas:

• Financial institutions: Advising banks and financial services businesses on employment law and regulatory issues affecting their workforces and senior executives, including the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) and remuneration governance.
• Partnerships and senior executives: Advising professional services firms on partnership structures, partner disputes and departures, and managing sensitive issues involving C-suite and other senior executives.
• Regional and global advisory work: Coordinating multijurisdictional employment projects and delivering consolidated, locally compliant advice across APAC and globally.
• Transactions and restructures: Advising on the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions, carve-outs, divestments, integrations, restructures and large-scale workforce change. 
• Employment disputes: Conducting litigation and advising on restraints of trade, termination disputes, adverse action, discrimination, unfair dismissal and breach of contract claims.

• Advising financial institutions on the employment implications of the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR), APRA remuneration requirements and related governance arrangements. 
• Coordinating employment advice across multiple jurisdictions for global workforce projects, including managing local counsel and providing a single consolidated work product.
• Leading the employment workstream on global and regional transactions involving more than 50 jurisdictions, including carve-outs, acquisitions, divestments and post-completion integration. 
• Advising directly on the employment aspects of major corporate divestments and converting transactional engagements into ongoing employment relationships.
• Advising on executive appointments and departures, employment contracts, incentive arrangements, post-employment restraints and negotiated exits.
• Advising employers on workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, performance management, complaints, discrimination, bullying and harassment.
• Advising on modern award coverage, minimum employment entitlements, payroll compliance and remediation programs.
• Defending employers in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia, Australian Human Rights Commission and Supreme Court of New South Wales.
