Biography

Victor Saint-Cast is a senior associate in the EU Competition & Regulatory Affairs team. He joined Baker McKenzie's Brussels office in February 2022 and is currently on a one-year secondment to Baker McKenzie’s London Office.

Before joining Baker McKenzie, Victor was an associate in an independent law firm where he was advising businesses on their distribution network organisation and litigation. He also worked at the European Commission's Directorate General for competition and in the legal department of several leading retail companies.

Practice Focus

Victor advises clients on an array of competition law matters: compliance, distribution networks and vertical restrictions, cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, as well as EU and global merger control.

Victor's sector experience includes chemical and food industry, consumer healthcare, biotech, consumer goods and retail, financial services, and digital.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advising Sappi on its European Paper Joint Venture with UPM.
  • Advising Vandemoortele on its acquisition of Délifrance (cleared conditionally in Phase 1 by the EC).
  • Advising a global consumer healthcare company in an investigation by the Belgian Competition Authority, including unannounced inspection at the company premises.
  • Advising Novonesis in its EUR 1.5 billion acquisition of dsm-Firmenich’s share of the Feed Enzyme Alliance.
  • Advising a company in the construction chemicals investigation by the European Commission, including unannounced inspection at the company premises.
  • Advising Chr. Hansen in its EUR 12 billion merger with Novozymes (cleared conditionally in Phase 1 by the EC).
  • Advising a large cloud tech company on its compliance with the EU Digital Market Act, and in investigations and sector-wide inquiries in various jurisdictions across the world (the EU, the UK, Japan, Korea and France).
  • Advising a company active in the financial sector in an abuse of dominance investigation, ultimately abandoned by the European Commission.
  • Acting as lead associate in securing clearance of global transactions in various competition authorities globally (including the EU, the US, the UK, China, Brazil, etc.), as well as foreign investment review.
  • Advising a number of large companies on distribution agreements, including on risks arising in respect of resale price maintenance, territorial restrictions and online sales.
