Biography

Jacqueline Rotondi practices commercial, regulatory, competition and international trade law as a member of Baker McKenzie's Global International Commercial and Trade Group.

Practice Focus

Jacqueline regularly advises clients in a variety of industries on Canadian advertising and marketing law, including advising on advertising requirements, deceptive marketing, influencer marketing, greenwashing, consumer protection, and contests and promotions.

She also focuses on providing regulatory and commercial counsel to companies regulated by Health Canada. Jacqueline helps clients navigate the regulatory landscape affecting the manufacture and sale of food, drugs, natural health products, cosmetics, pest control products, and consumer products. This includes advising on licensing requirements and product recalls, and reviewing product packaging and labelling.

Jacqueline also practices international trade and investment law. She advises domestic and international clients on Canadian customs compliance, economic sanctions, trade remedies, free trade agreements, and other regulatory matters affecting the cross-border movement of goods. Jacqueline assists clients with establishing duty and tax effective supply chains when international businesses enter the Canadian market, including advising on the application of the transaction value method to purchasers in Canada.

Jacqueline also advises clients on Canadian and international merger control, foreign investment and national security in corporate and commercial transactions.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represented a Canadian importer in connection with a normal value review by the Canada Border Services Agency.
  • Assisted clients in obtaining permits pursuant to the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Permit Authorization Order.
  • Assisting clients in registering and complying with the CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management project.
  • Assisted an international pharmaceutical company in updating its Canadian Drug Establishment Licence, which required coordinating with foreign healthcare regulators.
  • Advised an international manufacturer on the advertising and marketing risk in connection with its acquisition of a snack food company.
