Biography

Frederick Pedro is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Dispute Resolution Practice Group and part of the Investigations, Compliance & Ethics Sub-Practice Group in Johannesburg.

Frederick assists corporate and commercial clients in all aspects relating to commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He has experience in a diverse range of complex and high‑value international and domestic litigation matters, including local and cross‑border arbitrations, as well as conducting corporate investigations.

Frederick also has experience advising industry clients on pharmaceutical regulations and compliance.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advised and assisted on the conduct of a corporate investigation on behalf of a global fast-food chain following allegations of discrimination, victimisation, and a culture of fear being created by key individuals.
  • Conducted an extensive forensic investigation into the proposed acquirer of a large sum of franchises of a US-based fast food chain.
  • Assisted on a corporate investigation on behalf of a global medical technology manufacturer and distributor of orthopaedic products following allegations of bribery and corruption in relation to the distribution contract awarded to its South African third-party logistics partner.
  • Advised a multinational vehicle manufacturer and distributor on the commercial and regulatory considerations for the integration of advanced telecommunications and data software in its manufactured vehicles.
  • Advised a multinational provider of lottery systems and services in its application contending for the Fourth National Lottery Licence in South Africa.
  • Advised and assisted a Middle Eastern grain importer in an English-seated arbitration against a Romanian grain producer with a total value in excess of USD 100 million.
  • Coordinated and project managed a multijurisdictional law review for a Singapore-based industrial water works distributor.
  • Advised a non-profit organisation in an application to interdict and review the implementation of liquified natural gas in lieu of existing natural gas supplied to homes and businesses.
