Biography

Nont Horayangura is the Principal of the Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group in Baker McKenzie’s Bangkok office. He represents a wide range of business and institutional clients in various IP, Data and Technology matters. He also currently holds various public positions in those fields, for example, a Member of the Copyright Board of Thailand, a Council Member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) Thailand Group and a Board Member of the Intellectual Property Association of Thailand (IPAT).

Practice Focus

Mr. Horayangura has almost 30 years’ experience in advising and assisting multinational and local leaders in various industries on strategic IP protection, data and technologies. He also has extensive experience in commercialization and enforcement of IP and technology in Thailand as well as in other countries around the world. He works closely with domestic teams in a variety of countries worldwide, and oversees the pursuit, defense, and litigation of a wide range of cases and disputes across various jurisdictions. As a data protection and privacy law specialist, Mr. Horayangura assists and supports leaders in the field on a wide range of compliance and licensing issues, and responding to demands from authorities. He offers comprehensive solutions for his clients. He also provides advice to authorities on issues relating to emerging technologies such as AI.

Representative Legal Matters

Advised the US trade association for the filming industry through analysis of Thailand’s regulatory environment relating to Artificial Intelligence
Team leader working with the Baker McKenzie San Diego Office to represent a major ‘free to air’ TV channel in Thailand in filing a copyright and trademark case in Los Angeles and Bangkok against an illegal distributor resulting in a favorable multi-million dollar jury verdict in the US, and a favorable multi-million Baht award by the Supreme Court of Thailand
Acquired and manages Thailand’s largest oil & gas and first Fortune 500 company’s trademark portfolio in its entirety both domestically and internationally
Advised one of Hollywood’s ‘Big 5’ movie studios on legal aspects of various film and television productions in Thailand, including production services, licensing, copyright, tax and talent agreements. Also manages the studio’s trademark portfolio and successfully pursued enforcement actions across Thailand on the client’s behalf
Advised an international hotel chain with 20 iconic brands in more than 80 countries around the world on licensing issues regarding their IP in Thailand
Coordinates high-profile investigations and enforcement matters across Thailand for world renowned luxury brands and assists Thai Customs with improving recognition and seizure rates of infringing products at borders for businesses in a wide range of industries
Led the team in an emerging technology project with a government agency to help develop, support and promote electronic transactions. Prepared the consultation papers for public hearings and the subsequent recommendation papers on regulations for AI and Data Sharing
Led contract negotiations for the Stock Exchange of Thailand for the implementation of cutting edge trading platforms for the institution
Advised leading Thai commercial banks and the Bank of Thailand on technology transfer in the first blockchain project in the Thai financial industry
Advised major telecommunications service providers from the US and China on the establishment of Thai subsidiaries and the preparation of legal guidelines, licensing, regulatory requirements and compliance issues
