Biography

Alex is a senior associate at Baker McKenzie in the Technology, Healthcare & Life Sciences team, having started as a graduate with the Firm in 2018.

Alex also holds a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Genetics and Molecular Biology.

Practice Focus

Alex uses her skills to advise Australian and international clients across the healthcare industry. Alex also advises on privacy, consumer, commercial and regulatory matters across a variety of industry sectors when required.

Alex has provided advice on a range of matters including contract drafting and negotiation, R&D legal support, medical regulation and TGA issues, privacy, and intellectual property.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advising a division of the Victorian Government Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions in relation to arrangements with the Commonwealth and Moderna, Inc to establish an mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility, a fill and finish capability, a regional headquarters and a research centre in Victoria.

  • Negotiating an agreement to support the manufacturing, supply and fill and finish of a COVID-19 vaccination in Australia during the global pandemic.

  • Providing support for the procurement of equipment in relation to the construction of a new biotechnology facility.

  • Providing support and advice in the drafting and negotiation of research collaboration and development agreements with various Australian and overseas universities and research institutions.

  • Providing legal support to the in-house R&D team of a large biotechnology company for 18 months, including a mixture of full-time and part-time engagement with the business, its researchers, lawyers and other stakeholders.

  • Advising both overseas and Australian clients on the Australian healthcare legal and regulatory environment, including therapeutic goods regulations, advertising restrictions, medical device regulation, online and telehealth practices, sponsorship of medicines and negotiation of sponsorship agreements, and conduct of clinical trials.

  • Advising a large domestic company on rules and regulations relating to pharmacy ownership, location and establishment.

  • Assisting in the acquisition of an Australian healthcare company by a large international buyer, including in relation to the scope for use and disclosure of sensitive health information held by the target business.

  • Assisting in the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements including tender responses, licence agreements, distribution agreements, supply agreements, and marketing agreements.
