Biography

Noor El-Gohary is an associate within Baker McKenzie's Dispute Resolution practice group at Baker McKenzie Cairo. She advises and represents multinational clients in complex tax, commercial, regulatory, intellectual property, and enforcement matters across a broad range of industries. Noor has significant responsibility for the day-to-day management and execution of high-value and strategically significant disputes, including the development of case strategy, preparation of pleadings and evidence, management of procedural steps, client communication, and coordination with global counsel, external advisers, and technical experts. She is recognized for her analytical ability, attention to detail, clear and practical advice, and effective handling of negotiations and settlements.

  • Representing multinational technology, financial services, manufacturing, hospitality, and consumer products companies in a broad range of tax disputes concerning VAT, withholding tax, capital gains tax, income tax assessments, transfer pricing, tax exemptions, and treaty interpretation.
  • Representing a major Saudi developer in a multi-million-dollar ICC construction arbitration concerning large-scale infrastructure and development projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Assisting with complex disputes under FIDIC-based construction contracts, including jurisdictional challenges, extension of time and prolongation claims, variations, disruption, delay damages, and limitation period defenses under Saudi law.
  • Represented a leading multinational pharmaceutical company in a tax controversy exceeding USD 150 million before the Egyptian Tax Authority and Egyptian courts. The matter was resolved through a settlement resulting in the cancellation of the disputed tax exposure.
  • Represented an international foundation in proceedings before the Egyptian Court of Cassation concerning the legal status of land within and surrounding Saint Catherine's Monastery, involving issues of religious heritage, administrative authority, and significant public interest.
  • Acted for a Bahraini investment bank in Egyptian proceedings relating to a USD 35 million promissory note issued by an Egyptian counterparty.
  • Represented a multinational technology company in disputes concerning the VAT treatment of exported services, obtaining successful outcomes before Egyptian courts and tax authorities.
  • Representing multinational technology, media, cybersecurity, and healthcare companies in intellectual property disputes before the Egyptian Economic Courts involving copyright infringement, trademark rights, digital platforms, distribution relationships, and technology-enabled products and services.
  • Represented multinational healthcare, medical device, technology, and consumer products companies in a substantial portfolio of commercial agency and distribution disputes involving claims for wrongful termination, non-renewal, exclusivity, damages, and agency registration.
  • Representing a leading plastic products manufacturer and supplier in a tax challenge concerning the application of capital gains tax to the sale of shares between former shareholders. The dispute raises novel questions regarding the scope of tax liability arising from share transfers.
  • Representing a leading global professional services firm in a VAT dispute concerning the application of schedule tax to non-banking financial services and the scope of exemptions under the Egyptian VAT Law.
  • Representing a global medical technology company in a commercial agency termination dispute.
  • Representing a multinational consumer electronics and major appliance manufacturer in an income tax dispute concerning the withholding tax treatment of delay penalties paid to entities in Korea, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
