Biography

Kelsey Baird is a senior associate in Baker McKenzie’s Real Estate Practice Group in Sydney with extensive experience advising on a broad range of real estate and renewable energy transactions. She joined the Sydney office in 2021 from New Zealand, having formerly practiced in New Zealand for 3 years.

Practice Focus

Kelsey acts on a wide variety of real estate matters, including acquisitions and disposals, developments, and leasing across the commercial, retail, industrial and logistical sectors.

She has a strong focus on renewable energy projects, regularly advising developers and investors on the acquisition, disposal, and financing of large-scale wind, solar, battery and other renewable energy assets throughout Australia.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Advising ALDI Stores on its national property portfolio, including the acquisition and disposal of retail and warehouse sites and the development of mixed-use sites. This includes advising on store leasing matters (landlord and tenant side) and related property arrangements across Australia. 
  • Advising major retail clients, including Estee Lauder, H&M, Michael Kors, Tiffany & Co, Canada Goose, Tory Burch and Moet Hennessy on their retail leasing portfolios across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Advising vendors and purchasers regarding the acquisition and disposal of retail shopping centres, commercial land, office buildings, industrial sites and development sites.
  • Acting for industrial clients such as ACFS, LF Logistics and Maersk on acquisitions, development and leasing of major industrial and manufacturing warehouses and depots within Australia.
  • Advising many landowners (corporate and individuals), developers and investors regarding the establishment of, investment in, and disposal or acquisition of numerous solar and wind farms, battery facilities and mixed projects across Australia. Her clients include, for example, Firm Power, Atmos, Dawn Renewables, Terrain Solar, RISEN Energy, ACE Power, Global Power Generation Australia, Neoen Australia, Penso Power Australia, Samsung Renewables, Solar Megawatt, Atmos Renewables, Liquid Power, FRV, Bridge Energy, Metis, Metlen, Valent Energy, Sustainable Energy Infrastructure and Base Carbon. 
  • Advising CS Energy on its acquisition of the AUD 1.3 billion Lotus Creek Wind Farm 285 MW project from Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, comprising 46 wind turbines near St Lawrence, in Queensland.
  • Advising Metis Energy Limited in achieving financial close and commencement of construction for the 111MWdc solar farm to be constructed and operated in Goondiwindi, South West Queensland (Gunsynd Solar Farm).
  • Advising HD Renewable Energy on the acquisition of the 111MW/330MWh Templers BESS in South Australia.
  • Advising Metlen Energy & Metals on the acquisition of a 100% interest in the 152MW Hay Solar Farm including extensive legal due diligence on this early stage greenfield project and the preparation and negotiation of the share purchase agreement and ancillary associated documentation. 
  • Vast experience in providing specialist property advice in respect of various business refinancing arrangements, disposals, acquisitions and takeovers across all sectors.
