Baker McKenzie M&A and Private Equity Partner Jennifer Broder recently joined David Marcus of The Deal for an episode of the Drinks with the Deal podcast. She shared her journey to becoming a lawyer, offered advice for new attorneys starting their careers, and reflected on the evolution of her practice alongside the changing economic landscape in Los Angeles.

Jennifer recounts how her interest in law emerged during a third-grade mock trial competition, where a well-known entertainment lawyer praised her performance as the judge. That early encouragement set her on a path that continued through law school and a clerkship at the Delaware Court of Chancery with the Honorable Leo E. Strine, Jr. There, she gained valuable insight into how judges interpret complex corporate documents such as merger agreements and proxy statements.

Since entering private practice, Jennifer has focused on M&A transactions, working alongside legal luminaries and leading high-profile deals. She also discusses her transition to Baker McKenzie and how the Firm’s global reach has strengthened her ability to support clients in sophisticated transactions. As she puts it, the move has “really supplement[ed] the work that we [can] provide for our existing clients in a way that we couldn’t at a firm that doesn’t have the same level of breadth and scope as Baker.”
