In brief
The digital economy is one of Malaysia's key economic pillars, contributing an estimated 23% of Malaysia's GDP in 2022 and is projected to reach 25.5% by end of 2025. Following a recent public consultation, the Malaysian Competition Commission ("MyCC") has published its Draft Final Report on Market Review of the Digital Ecosystem ("Draft Final Report") on 26 August 2025 (available here). The Draft Final Report now includes preliminary sector-specific and general cross-cutting recommendations to address identified competition issues in four sub-sectors. The public consultation for the Draft Final Report will be open until 14 September 2025 and provides a great opportunity for stakeholders to influence the final regulatory framework. The final report is scheduled for publication by December 2025.
