Lois Rodriguez Ares
Biography
Lois Rodríguez Ares is an associate in Baker McKenzie's Employment & Compensation Group since 2009. Lois participated in the Firm's Associate Training Program in the Chicago office in 2017- 2018, the London office in 2012 and the Stockholm office in 2019.
He is a professor in a Master's Program on HR Management at Escuela de Finanzas Business School (Galicia, Spain) and also collaborates with the Universidad Carlos III (Madrid, Spain)
Practice Focus
Lois provides strategic counseling on all matters related to managing employment relationships, such as issue identification and problem solving, contract drafting, negotiation, consultation and compliance investigations. He has experience with employment issues in mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, corporate reorganizations and outsourcing transactions. He regularly represents clients in court in all types of employment and labor cases, including class actions. He has defended clients before the Supreme Court and the National Court.
Representative Legal Matters
- Industrials, Manufacturing & Transportation. Counseled on employment and labor issues related to the merger and integration of two multinational companies in the delivery and logistics services sector in Spain. The process affected approximately 2,000 employees in a highly-unionized sector and entailed several collective consultations with the unions and collective litigation.
- Consumer Goods & Retail. Advised on a number of corporate restructurings, including the collective dismissal of more than 700 employees due to the closing down of a retailer's Spanish business.
- Energy, Mining & Infrastructure. Advised a multinational oil company on a compliance-related investigation and the subsequent litigation process, which concluded with the Spanish Supreme Court's decision declaring the dismissal justified.
- Industrials, Manufacturing & Transportation. Acted for a food distributor company in the investigation of an internal fraud case.
- Industrials, Manufacturing & Transportation. Legal defense in several asbestos related lawsuits filed by former employees and or their relatives claiming damages and other liabilities due to an alleged exposure to asbestos in the workplace.
