Biography

Richard is a Senior Associate in the Baker McKenzie Dispute Resolution Department based in London. He is a member of the firm's Arbitration Practice Group.

Practice Focus

Richard primarily advises on arbitration and commercial litigation, with a particular focus on post-M&A and joint venture disputes.

Representative Legal Matters

Recent projects with which Richard has been involved include:

  • Advised a private individual in the banking industry in an ICC arbitration seeking to rescind contracts as a result of fraudulent misrepresentations

  • Advised two multinational groups in the shipping industry in an ICC arbitration defending a claim for unfair prejudice and breach of notice procedures in relation to a share issue

  • Acted for a manufacturer in the oil and gas sector bringing a claim for breach of a joint venture agreement in an ICC arbitration

  • Advised a major oil company on the renegotiation of its contracts for the purchase of drill-ships in the context of an alleged breach of contract and possible ICC arbitration claim

  • Acted for a commodities trader in LCIA proceedings in relation to a dispute as to the purported exercise of an option to purchase additional quantities

  • Acted for a major oil company in LCIA proceedings against an Italian oil and gas company in respect of unpaid invoices

  • Acting for a major media company defending a claim by a public figure for misuse of private information and breach of data protection law

  • Advised a major social media company on its rights in a defamation and breach of data protection claim in relation to hosting third party comments

  • Advised a global technology company on a claim for defamation and malicious falsehood in relation to keeping a "blacklist" of resellers it would not allow to sell its products

  • Acted for an electronics manufacturer in a negligence action against a former pensions adviser in respect of the failure to break the salary link when the company sought to close its final salary pension scheme to future accrual
