Baker McKenzie today announced that it has advised Metis Energy Limited (Metis), a renewable energy platform listed on the SGX, with achieving financial close and commencement of construction for the 111MWdc solar farm to be constructed and operated in Goondiwindi, South West Queensland (Gunsynd Solar Farm).

The Gunsynd Solar Farm is being financed by DBS Bank Ltd, Siemens Bank and SMBC, and PCL Construction is engaged to undertake the engineering, procurement and construction works.  The financial close for the project marks a significant milestone for Metis who completed its acquisition of the site and early stage development in December 2022 and continues to build strong experience in renewable energy developments.  Once built, the project will power up to 32,000 households in Queensland annually.

Baker McKenzie partner Raymond Lou commented: “We are pleased to have helped Metis to reach this important milestone for their first renewable project in Australia. The Gunsynd Solar Farm demonstrates our ability to support our clients on the whole of project cycle, having advised Metis on the acquisition of the greenfield project, connection establishment, PPA procurement, EPC tendering, and reaching financial close on a syndicated debt package.”

The Baker McKenzie team was led by Raymond Lou (M&A), Charlie Detmold (financing), Aylin Cunsolo (connection & PPA), Joshua Saunders (construction) and Sarah Merrett (property), and supported by the full projects team including Dean Bao, Alessandra Pirozzolo, Macy Jong, Taylor Owens, Lewis Wolfe, William Eefting, Joshua Hayes, Kristen Centorame, Calvin White, Anna Vella, Tom Webb and Rani Narulla.
