Philippe Reich mainly practices in the areas of antitrust and competition, European and international trade law, as well as corporate law. He joined Baker & McKenzie as a law clerk in 1996 and as an associate in 1999 and subsequently became partner in 2007. Mr. Reich currently serves as co-head of the Firm’s Antitrust and EU Law Practice Group in Zurich, and is a member of the European Competition Law, the International Trade and Commerce Law, as well as the M&A and Private Equity practice groups. He is the editor of EuroBaker, a Firm publication on European law from a Swiss perspective. He is an active member of Baker & McKenzie’s India Focus Group and forms the Indian Desk of the Firm’s Zurich office.

Practice Focus

Mr. Reich regularly assists clients in local and international commercial and corporate transactions. He provides sound legal advice on antitrust and trade compliance matters and represents clients in cartel, merger control and export control proceedings. Mr. Reich’s practice also includes drafting and negotiating all kinds of complex commercial and transactional agreements, including share and asset purchase agreements, distribution and franchise agreements and joint venture agreements. He likewise advises clients on commercial and competition issues arising in mergers, acquisitions, private equity and other corporate transactions.

  • Represents and advises a major international freight forwarder in the global investigation of an alleged cartel in the freight forwarding sector and coordinates the global team of legal advisers.
  • Advises a major international cosmetics producer in the Swiss investigation of an alleged cartel in the perfumes sector.
  • Advised a major international airline in a dominance case in Switzerland and advised on the competition law aspects of the acquisition of Swissair after its grounding.
  • Advises a major international travel agency in competition law matters.
  • Advises a major Swiss news agency in competition law matters.
  • Advises a Swiss cement producer in competition law matters.
  • Advises sanofi-aventis, a major international pharmaceutical company, in merger control and competition law matters.
  • Advises a major Swiss real estate company in merger control and competition law matters.
  • Advised a major international bank in the Swiss merger control proceeding in respect of a joint venture with another major international bank; advised another major international bank in competition law matters; advised a major Swiss private bank in the Swiss merger control proceeding in respect of its acquisition of another Swiss private bank.
  • Regularly advises major international and Swiss private equity houses not only in their transactions, but also in merger control or competition law aspects of their portfolio companies; e.g. Permira in its acquisition and sale of Jet Aviation, and Capvis in various transactions.
