Michael Michalandos is a partner in the Sydney office of Baker & McKenzie where he advises on employment law and industrial relations. He acts for clients in the banking and finance, telecommunications, real estate, insurance, media and entertainment, information technology and professional services industry. Michael is regarded as a leading practitioner in employment law and litigation.

Practice Focus

Michael's practice focuses on all aspects of employment and industrial law, including employment agreements, executive agreements and responsibilities, human resources and occupational health and safety policies and procedures. He also advises on outsourcing, performance management, employment termination, confidentiality and post employment restrictions and anti discrimination matters.

Michael regularly engages in employment related litigation before State and Federal courts and industrial tribunals.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Defending unfair contract claims, unfair dismissal claims, anti-discrimination and breach of contract (including bonus plans and policies) claims. 
  • Advising on industrial relations strategy, including trade union issues. 
  • Training managers and directors on termination, restructuring, obligations to manage employees, discrimination, harassment and occupational health and safety. 
  • Advising clients on the fiduciary obligations, directors' duties, confidential information, privacy laws and conflicts of interest. 
  • Designing and implementing employment and executive contracts and best practice policies, including the preparation of discretionary bonus plans, commission schemes, post employment restrictions, and other provisions designed to protect business.
