Our strong Central Asia team has a deep understanding of local culture and business practices, and has represented various multinational corporations and financial institutions investing and operating in Central Asia.

Baker & McKenzie is the only law firm that Kazakhstan’s president has selected as a member of his Foreign Investors Council. In that role, we co-chair the president’s Legal Working Group, which advises the president twice a year on legal issues important to the foreign investment community.



From 1 January 2014 new terms for notifying the Federal Migration Service (FMS) on the employment of highly qualified specialists come into force. The changes are set out in Order No. 372 of the FMS issued on 5 September 2013.
The Russian government proposes a law that would require foreigners to secure permits before conducting real estate transactions.
The Consumer Credit Act, to be enforced on 1 July 2014, will compel lenders, including banks and micro-finance companies, to disclose a substantial amount of details about the terms and conditions, costs and expenses of the credit they provide.
