Biography

Anne Flahvin is a special counsel in the Dispute Resolution and Litigation group at Baker McKenzie. Anne is experienced in content issues, particularly those affecting the media, advertising, publishing and education sectors. She also advises regularly on copyright and new media.

Practice Focus

Anne joined Baker McKenzie after an academic career teaching media law and contracts at Macquarie University and the University of Technology, Sydney. After joining Baker McKenzie she continued as a part-time academic, teaching two media law courses in the LLM program at the University of New South Wales until 2015. Prior to her legal career, Anne was a journalist, and has worked on the Australian Financial Review, the Sydney Morning Herald and the National Times covering politics and finance.

  • Acting for major media groups in relation to copyright infringement proceedings and copyright litigation.

  • Acting for one of the largest media organisations, and private individuals, in defamation proceedings in the NSW Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia.

  • Acting for Universities Australia and its 39 member universities in Copyright Tribunal proceedings.

  • Acting for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in Copyright Tribunal proceedings.
