Leading global law firm Baker McKenzie has appointed Fernando Torrente as partner in charge of M&A and Capital Markets in its Madrid office, effective 1 July 2023.
Fernando Torrente is one of the most recognized Spanish lawyers in the transactional field, both in M&A and capital markets. He is also one of the most experienced lawyers in corporate governance, having formed part of the Group of Experts that advised the CNMV on the drafting of the Good Governance Code for Listed Companies, approved in February 2015.
A law graduate from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid/CEU San Pablo, Torrente has a long track record of providing transactional legal advice to leading companies, investment banks, family groups and investment funds, having participated in more than forty IPOs. He is regularly recognized by the main legal directories as a leading lawyer in the areas of Corporate M&A and Equity Capital Markets, recurrently occupying prominent positions in the annual transaction rankings. In 2019 he was recognized as the Best Lawyer in Spain by Expansión.
Rodrigo Ogea and Bruno Domínguez, co-managing partners of Baker McKenzie in Spain, say they are "pleased with the addition of Fernando, which demonstrates Baker McKenzie's commitment to strengthening our leadership among international firms operating in the Spanish market".
On joining Baker McKenzie, Fernando Torrente acknowledges that he is "very excited to join an established team with a great track record and reputation in the market. I am convinced that the combination of local strength combined with Baker McKenzie's global and multidisciplinary platform will allow us to offer the best legal advice to our clients in their most complex deals and transactions".
With this addition, Baker McKenzie will now have 44 partners in Spain and more than 215 lawyers, making it the international law firm with the longest track record and presence in Spain.
