Biography

Aleksandra Żanowska is an associate in Baker McKenzie’s Warsaw office. Aleksandra has experience in advising and representing clients in complex commercial disputes, both in litigation and arbitration.

Additionally, Aleksandra closely cooperates with the Jagiellonian University in Cracow on a pro bono basis where she conducts workshops pertaining to arbitration and coaches a team for an investment arbitration moot competition.

Practice Focus

Aleksandra has extensive experience in domestic and cross-border commercial litigation and arbitration. She has represented clients in post-M&A disputes concerning performance of contracts, violations of representations and warranties, as well as other types of contract disputes. Aleksandra has also advised investors in investment arbitration proceedings. Additionally, she has acted on investor-state disputes under ICSID, UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, as well as under the ICC Arbitration Rules. She also represents clients in court proceeding pertaining to unfair competition claims and breach of IP rights.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Represented an investor from the leisure industry in ad hoc investment arbitration proceedings against a European state under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules administered by the Permanent court of arbitration
  • Defended Polish entrepreneurs against claims of a Finnish company pertaining to a contractual penalty for termination of negotiations of a share purchase agreement in arbitration proceedings held under the Arbitration Rules of the PCC
  • Advised a client in expert proceedings held under the ICC Rules for Expertise Rules in a post-M&A matter
  • Represented clients in proceedings for enforcement of arbitral awards
  • Represented a subcontractor in numerous interconnected commercial and criminal proceedings concerning an infrastructure project from the TMT sector
  • Represented clients in disputes concerning unfair competition claims and trademark claims held before Polish courts
  • Advised a pharmaceutical company in proceedings held before the Supreme Court in Poland concerning parallel import in EU and trademarks
